SNUBA®, the beginner-friendly intermediary between snorkelling and scuba diving, continues to be one of the most popular ways for guests to experience Grenada’s spectacular underwater world.

It’s safe and simple, requiring no heavy gear or classroom time.

It is operated at shallow depths (maximum 20 feet) and allows you to see much more, for longer than would be possible with traditional snorkelling. In SNUBA®, your regulator is connected via hose to a floating surface raft containing the air supply, allowing you to manoeuvre freely to explore reefs, wrecks and marine life.

It may sound simple, but for many first-timers, “breathing underwater” feels like an unsolvable paradox — until they meet a trusted guide. Enter Clevlon Charles, the top SNUBA® salesman across all Sandals and Beaches Resorts for 2025 and a reassuring underwater guardian for countless guests.

Described as “reassuring and kind,” Clevlon’s journey has been one of determination and growth. He began his career at Sandals Grenada in 2015 in the housekeeping department before transitioning to the watersports team as a beach attendant. In 2023, he completed training as a SNUBA® guide. Since taking on the role of lead SNUBA® guide, both sales and guest participation have increased year over year. “When demonstrating and connecting with our guests in the pool first, they see how easy it is,” Clevlon shared. “The next step is encouraging them into the ocean. Most visitors coming to Grenada have heard about the Underwater Sculpture Park and want this once-in-a-lifetime experience. I enlighten them that the best way to see it up close and comfortably is with SNUBA®.”

Grenada’s famous Moliniére Underwater Sculpture Park and beginner-friendly SNUBA® prove to be a perfect pairing. Top guides, Clevlon Charles and Troy John, have transformed nervous visitors from the pool to happy divers at the Moliniére Underwater Sculpture Park, personal accomplishments for the visitors and guides alike.

“I am incredibly proud of our SNUBA® guides,” said Curtis Bailey, watersports manager. “Clevlon and Troy consistently go above and beyond to ensure every guest feels confident, safe and excited. Their dedication, professionalism and passion for what they do elevate the entire watersports experience at Sandals Grenada.”

Although SNUBA® is not a SCUBA certification course, it provides valuable underwater experience, serving as a comfortable introduction to becoming a certified diver. From SNUBA to SCUBA is a popular transition, which many guests have enjoyed at Sandals Grenada Resort.

“Seeing guests progress from SNUBA® to full SCUBA certification is one of the most rewarding parts of our job,” added Bailey. “It shows that with the right support and encouragement, they can achieve something they may have once thought impossible or very difficult to do.”

This spirit of growth is mirrored by the guides themselves. Through dedication and continuous upskilling, both Clevlon Charles and Troy John have now become certified SCUBA instructors, paving the way for the next cohort of SNUBA® instructors.
