  • Nazzio John was sole male athlete from Grenada contesting relay and individual sprint disciplines
  • Earned individual Second-Team All-American honours
  • National record holders Kelsie Murrel-Ross and Jamora Alves earned Second-Team All-American placements

Three Grenadian collegiate athletes earned All-American honours at the 2026 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, from 10–13 June.

All-American honours are highly competitive distinctions awarded by the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). While First-Team All-American honours are reserved for athletes placing in the top 8 of an event final, individual finishes from 9th through 16th place secure Second-Team All-American status. With over 20,000 student-athletes competing across the United States, achieving a top-16 national ranking in any discipline places an athlete among an elite tier of collegiate performers.

The athletes qualified through rigorous regional preliminary competitions to place among the top 24 competitors in the United States designated for the national final rounds.

Nazzio John, competing for Ohio State University, was the sole male athlete from Grenada in attendance, contesting both relay and individual sprint disciplines. In the men’s 4×100-metre relay, John teamed with Dominic Calhoun, Kyler Brown, and Braxton Brann to help the Buckeyes finish third in the final with a time of 38.44 seconds, placing behind Tennessee and Louisiana State University. The podium finish secured First-Team All-American honours for the relay team.

John also lined up in the individual men’s 200-metre dash. Competing against top sprinters, the national senior record holder finished 10th overall in the semifinal rounds with a time of 20.40 seconds. While he did not advance to the nine-man final, his top 16 national ranking earned him individual Second-Team All-American honours.

In the women’s field events, 2 national record holders completed their collegiate seasons with Second-Team All-American placements. Jamora Alves represented S. John’s University in the women’s discus throw final. Alves recorded a top mark of 54.95 metres on her second attempt to finish 14th overall in the competition, concluding her career with the Red Storm. Kelsie Murrel-Ross competed in the women’s shot put final for the University of Georgia. Murrel-Ross delivered a best throw of 17.02 metres to place 11th overall.

The finishes by John, Murrel-Ross, and Alves conclude the primary domestic collegiate track and field season for Grenada’s top-tier international prospects in the United States. Attention now turns to Grenada’s regional and international exploits, including the Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Games and Commonwealth Games carded for August 2026.
