When the 2025 Grenlec Debates Season begins on Wednesday, 17 September, the spotlight won’t just be on winning arguments. It will shine on the young people who have spent weeks preparing, the teachers guiding them and the community that rallies to make it all possible.
This year’s preparations began in July with a lively workshop that brought students and coaches together to sharpen their research, presentation and debating skills. The Orientation Session in September carried that momentum forward, reminding students of the tools they’ve gained and determining the eagerly awaited match-ups for the preliminary round.
“We had a very informative session where we learnt how to guide our students in a way that helps them see the Debates not only as a chance to win, but as a wholesome experience that shapes their growth,“ Shania Chase, coach/ former Grenlec debater shared at the Orientation Session on 5 September.
Behind the scenes, a national village of support makes the debates possible — educators who take an interest and give effort, judges and other volunteers from the public and private sector who give their time, and families who encourage every step of the journey. Their efforts create a stage where students can explore issues that matter to our audience and the world, while learning lessons that last a lifetime.
As Grenlec extends thanks to the village and best wishes to every participating school, the excitement now turns to the debates themselves.
Audiences can share in the journey, beginning in October with highlights of the Preliminaries on television and Grenlec’s YouTube channel.
In the end, these debates aren’t about who wins the championship title — they’re about who grows.
