Approximately 4 years after he allegedly committed murder in his homeland, on the same day La Soufrière volcano erupted, a Vincentian national was caught in Grenada on Monday, 7 April 2025 and handed over to Vincentian law enforcement.
Ormando Mofford, 30 was captured sometime between 4:20 pm and 5:20 pm at L’Esterre, Carriacou, one of the Grenadine Islands under the administration of Grenada.
Grenada police have not said when Mofford was handed over to law enforcement in St Vincent. However, a news release on the Facebook pages of the Royal St Vincent and the Grenadines Police Force (RSVGPF) and the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) confirmed that “30-year-old Ormando Mofford, also known as “Heads” of Glen, was apprehended in Grenada by the Royal Grenada Police Force and handed over to Vincentian authorities shortly thereafter.” Mofford was charged with murder in connection with the shooting death of 19-year-old Dale Hooper, also known as “Micey” of Glen, on 9 April 2021.
“Hooper was fatally shot multiple times around 7 pm on that date and died on the scene. Notably, the murder occurred on the same day as the eruption of the La Soufrière volcano, a time of national crisis and uncertainty,” according to the RSVGPF post.
On Monday, 14 April, Mofford appeared before the Serious Offences Court for arraignment. He was not required to enter a plea because of the indictable nature of the charge. Mofford was remanded into custody at His Majesty’s Prison, and the matter has been adjourned to 5 May.
The RSVGPF Facebook post said: “This breakthrough is the result of a meticulous investigation led by detectives from the Major Crimes Unit, whose persistence and professionalism played a critical role in advancing this case. The RSVGPF also acknowledges the cooperation and collaboration of the Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) in Mofford’s arrest.”
