- NBC report published on 5 December said Trump transition team reached out to several countries including Grenada
- Plan to deport some migrants to third-party countries would be part of promised US mass deportation programme
- Office of Press Secretary said Grenada has not engaged in any discussion regarding deportation of migrants to Grenada
The Government of Grenada is denying claims that the country may be one of the jurisdictions that the incoming Donald Trump Administration has identified to send deportation flights for its promised mass deportation programme.
“The Office of the Prime Minister advises that the Government of Grenada has not engaged in any discussion regarding the deportation of migrants to Grenada. Furthermore, no proposal has been presented regarding this matter,” said a release from the Office of the Press Secretary. “This clarification comes amidst concerns raised surrounding an NBC news article claiming that the incoming Trump Administration plans to deport some migrants to some countries other than they own.”
An exclusive report on nbcnews.com said that the Trump transition team has already contacted several countries to work out a deal under which they would agree to receive deportation flights from the US.
The report, which was published on 5 December, said that “the plan to deport some migrants whose home countries are reluctant to accept them, to third-party countries where they may have no connection, would be a way for the new Trump administration to work around that issue as it creates what US President-elect Trump has promised will be “the largest deportation operation in American history.”
“Migrants who come from Venezuela, Cuba, China and other countries that are reluctant to accept back people who have emigrated to the United States have long posed an issue for US authorities, who are barred by federal court orders from indefinitely detaining them. As a result, many migrants from those countries end up released into the United States, even if a judge has ordered them deported,” said the report.
The President-elect will be sworn into office on 20 January 2025. He aims to deport migrants within a week of their arrest and believes this policy will help expedite deportations.

Cool your jets people. Trump talk the talk but don’t walk the walk. He’s a blow hard bully. Massive deportations are a fantasy of a feeble demented brain.
This writer has to be careful with what she reports. Your opening paragraph is inaccurate. The government of Grenada’s statement was that they have not been involved in any discussion regarding deportation of migrants to Grenada. They also stated that no proposals have even been presented to them. This is in no way a denial by the government that the country may be one of the jurisdictions that the incoming Trump administration has identified to send deportation flights, as stated in your article. They may not have had discussions or presented with a proposal, but that does not mean that Grenada is not on an intended list by Trump.
I am no baby Donald Trump support…he is absolutely disgusting. Americans voted for him and the world have to watch and prayer.
I thought the HM leader of the opposition hated fake news. Why is the NNP channel repeating fake American news.
In these times of fake news why not get facts before posting your opinions and conclusions You may just be addressing a problem that doesn’t exist.
