The Government Information Service (GIS) of Grenada and Xinhua News Agency of the People’s Republic of China have officially signed a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on News Cooperation.

The agreement was formalised at the prestigious Global South Media and Think Tank Forum by Jason Phillip, Director of GIS, and Fu Hua, President of Xinhua News Agency, recently in Sao Paulo, Brazil.

This partnership marks a significant milestone in fostering mutual understanding, collaboration, and information exchange between Grenada and China.

Under the terms of the MOU, GIS and Xinhua will engage in a range of collaborative initiatives, which include comprehensive media coverage and mutual support during official visits and significant national and international events.

Both parties will exchange news products to enhance global coverage, providing Grenadian audiences with access to Xinhua’s international reporting while amplifying Grenada’s voice on the global stage.

Reporters, editors, and technical experts from both organisations will also be afforded the opportunity to participate in capacity-building programmes geared to fostering professional development and knowledge sharing.

This agreement not only enhances GIS’s capacity to deliver impactful communication strategies but also strengthens Xinhua’s role as a leading global media organisation. Together, both parties are committed to delivering credible, timely, and objective news that reflects the shared values and aspirations of Grenada and China.

The signing solidifies GIS and Xinhua’s partnership as a model for international media cooperation. It paves the way for sustainable growth, innovation, and stronger ties between the 2 nations, reaffirming their shared commitment to progress and mutual respect.

We should not be surprised. The current administration is full of communist-indoctrinated officials. My hopes of Grenada having a fiscally responsible nationalist government died with De Con. Grenada is officially a Chinese colony.

I agree with prior comment. It is a subtle but unfortunate drift to a regime who does not give its people freedom of thought and expression . If the turnover and Red Chinese government failure to fulfill promises of a free Hong Kong in 1997 is not an example to illustrate, then you need to revaluate.

Please hold the Grenadian govt leaders accountable as to foreign debt service and how free the Grenadian press will be to inform the people of Grenada!

This is horrific. GIS is now openly cooperating with the official propaganda arm of a repressive and autocratic communist dictatorship. This is frightening. The amount of influence and power the Chinese Communist Party has in Grenada is ludicrous.
