The Government of Grenada extends deepest condolences to the Government and People of St Kitts and Nevis on the passing of former Governor-General and Attorney General Sir Samuel Weymouth Tapley Seaton, GCMG, CVO, QC, JP.
“We have lost a brilliant star in the constellation of Caribbean greats,” Prime Minister Hon. Dickon Mitchell said upon receiving the sad news. “We join the nation of St Kitts and Nevis in bidding farewell to a true statesman and mourning the loss of a remarkable leader.”
Sir Samuel dedicated his life to public service and the upliftment of his homeland of St Kitts and Nevis. His contributions were underpinned by values of integrity and wisdom and extended to the wider Caribbean region.
As the first Attorney General for an independent St Kitts and Nevis, Sir Samuel actively sought to uphold the principles of the legal system. His passion and dedication, over a 15-year tenure as Attorney General, earned him much respect and admiration in St Kitts and Nevis and regionally.
In 2015, Sir Samuel was appointed as the 4th Governor-General of St Kitts and Nevis. He served in this position with distinction until January 2023.
During this time of mourning, our thoughts and prayers are with the family of Sir Samuel, the Government and People of St Kitts and Nevis, as well as his friends and loved ones.
May the memories of Sir Samuel Weymouth Tapley Seaton’s exceptional life and dedicated service bring comfort and strength during this difficult time.
May his soul rest in eternal peace.
