Prime Minister Honourable Dickon Mitchell joins the nation in mourning the loss of High Court Judge Dame Justice Monica Joseph.
As a member of the legal fraternity for most of his career, the Prime Minister underscored the significance of Justice Joseph’s accomplishments towards the advancement of justice and equality in the Caribbean.
Most notably, she was the first woman to be appointed as a Justice of the Eastern Caribbean Supreme Court (ECSC) in 1982. During her tenure, she served honourably in the capacity of High Court Judge in most of the States of the Organisation of Eastern Caribbean States (OECS), as well as in the OECS Court of Appeal, until 1996.
“Justice Jospeh was an esteemed figure in the legal profession and trailblazer in many respects,” Prime Minister Mitchell said. “Her outstanding contributions to our nation and the Caribbean, having served across the region, have left an enduring legacy that will continue to inspire generations of legal professionals.”
Throughout her illustrious career, Justice Monica Joseph served as Crown Counsel, Senior Crown Counsel, Solicitor General, Acting Director of Public Prosecutions, Head of the Public Service Commission and as Deputy to the Governor General.
At this difficult time, the Government of Grenada extends heartfelt sympathy to Justice Joseph’s family, friends, and colleagues.
