The implementation of local government for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs should be done within the third quarter of this year, as the Ministry of Legal Affairs drafting team continues to work on the legislation.

This was confirmed by Minister for Legal Affairs and Labour Senator the Hon. Claudette Joseph, who is leading a team on an official visit to Carriacou. Minister Joseph, who met with Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government Hon. Tevin Andrews, said that her drafting team is working assiduously to ensure that local government is implemented.

Much work was done on the draft bill during the period of 2008 -2013 by former Senator George Prime, who was then Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs.

Minister Andrews noted that the implementation of local government would allow for the people of Carriacou and Petite Martinique to have a greater say in their development.

Other areas discussed were the faster processing of work permits for people here and the establishment of a consumer affairs desk.

Permanent Secretary with the Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, Javan Williams, along with Permanent Secretary within the Ministry of Legal Affairs and Labour, Anna Brizan, Acting Labour Commissioner Sparkle Grenade-Courtney, and Senior Administrative Officer Dianne Stanislaus, were part of the discussions.
