Several initiatives that will aid in positively transforming the constituency of Carriacou and Petite Martinique are being worked on by the Ministry headed by MP Hon. Tevin Andrews.

Hon. Andrews, Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, gave a report of the status of projects under his Ministry at the first townhall meeting to be held since assuming office almost 6 months ago. He noted that of more than 500 requests received for assistance in different areas, 90% have been fulfilled.

Minister Andrew also addressed the concern of the people of the Carriacou and Petite Martinique relating to interisland transport. He said discussions are underway with SVG AIR and other investors to ensure that the island has reliable air transport.

The lack of certain healthcare services on the island has been a major concern for years. To this, Minister Andrews said they are looking at the establishment of a helipad on both Carriacou and Petite Martinique for emergency purposes.

In the area of infrastructure, several new road projects will be embarked upon, he said. On the island of Petite Martinique, the main jetty has been in need of repairs for years. Minister Andrews said that remedial work will soon commence, and it will include proper lighting.

Other concerns raised included the need for a centre for senior citizens and persons living with disabilities, the need for a price comptroller on island, and development of a green recreational space.

The townhall also gave those in attendance the opportunity to ask questions and give their suggestions.

Minister Andrews, who was supported by Permanent Secretary Javan Williams and other senior officials from the Ministry, also used the opportunity to remind citizens to make healthy lifestyle choices.

Which more effective, a helipad or upgrade the health facility with train technicians.

All the data is there for the relevant persons to use.

What is the cost to maintain a helicopter, compared to upgrading the current medical facility?

How frequent does life threatening events happen?

For non-life threatening event can care be provided in Carriacou. How does an injured transported to the mainland…etc.

I think upgrading the medical facility with trained technicians will be more effective.

Nurses can provide out of facility checkups to our senior citizens.

Facility for people with disabilities is needed…

Under Grenada’s universal Healthcare there are lots medical exams and procedures that should be carried in Carriacou without relying on private facilities.

No one should have to be a millionaire to afford basic Healthcare.
