A number of employment opportunities will come on stream in the next few weeks, as government gives the green light for contract work to begin on several projects around the island.
On the list of projects are the Holy Cross RC School in St Andrew; St Theresa’s RC Pre-Primary School in St David; the expansion and upgrade of the daycare centre in Gouyave, St John; as well as repairs on the Hubble and Lance bridges, also in St John.
Facilitating Tuesday’s Post Cabinet Briefing, Sen. Brenda Hood said that government, through the Ministry of Works, is working closely with the contractors to ensure that persons in the respective communities obtain employment.
“Whenever jobs are being done, they should engage the people in the community so that persons in the communities can get employment if they are qualified and if they are interested,” Senator Hood said.
Sen. Hood says the government is aware of the employment situation in the country, and will continue to make efforts to provide Grenadians with jobs.
“This government is very conscious of the fact that employment of our people is critical, and this is why whenever we have the opportunity to create employment opportunities, this is what we do,” Sen. Hood added.
