The Vector Control Department in the Ministry of Health and Social Security, will begin a 4-day fogging operation in the South of the island, in an effort to reduce the incidence of Dengue Fever and other mosquito-borne diseases.

The operation will begin at 5 pm on Wednesday, 11 May and will continue until Friday, 13 May in the following communities/areas.

  • Wednesday: Point Salines and its environs including, Dr Grooms and SSU camp
  • Thursday: Upper Calliste and its environs
  • Friday: Lower Calliste and its environs including Foxx Inn and surroundings

This fogging operation is in response to increased reports of mosquito infestation in the above-named areas.

To assist the Ministry of Health to reduce the level of mosquito infestation in and around the home and community, the Ministry advises residents to be vigilant by ensuring their surroundings are free of mosquito breeding sites.

They are also being urged to check drains, gutterings, water-holding containers, and septic tanks for possible breeding sites.

Persons with respiratory difficulties such as asthma are reminded to stay away from the fog or inform the fogging team of their respiratory conditions.

Beekeepers are also asked to inform the team of any beekeeping activities in the area to be fogged.

For more information, please contact the Vector Control Department by calling (473) 440-2095.

Last year, not long after MoH fogged in St. Paul’s, the mosquito population EXPLODED, going from almost none to thousands per acre in 24 hours. It had to be the result of someone intentionally releasing them. I trust the outcome will be better this time or some hard questions will have to be asked of local or regional distributors of these fogging chemicals.
