The Naniki Caribbean Jazz Safari has touched down in Grenada and will be remaining here for the entire weekend and it will be featuring international, regional and local acts on the Mt Cinnamon Gardens.
When it opens on Saturday night, the producers will present the prestigious Naniki Caribbean Jazz Safari Legends Award musician James Clarkson for his contribution towards the development of the music industry especially in the genre of steelband.
The first Naniki Caribbean Jazz Legends Award was presented in Barbados to Trinidad born and Barbados based pianist Ebe Gilkes for his sterling contribution to the jazz movement in the Eastern Caribbean. Antigua’s Winston Anthony Bailey received the second Jazz Legends Award for his contribution to jazz and music in general in Antigua.
The Awards ceremony and presentation of the citation will be a highlight of the Opening Concert of the Naniki Caribbean Jazz Safari, with performances from Peter ‘Zack’ Bernard, (Grenada/USA) Derek McKeith’s Blues Band, (USA) and Quiet Fire will bring to an end an exciting first night of music.
The opening night will feature local band “Quiet Fire” with lead vocalist Jenny J who will be heating up the stage with her wide repertoire. The local band will perform along with a returning son of the soil Peter “Zack” Bernard” and US guitarist and vocalist, Derek Mc Keith in a jazz festival dubbed a ‘thrilling Caribbean musical ride’.
“This is the first Jazz concert to be held in the garden at Mount Cinnamon and Grenada music lovers can expect a high energy show by some of the best exponents of jazz from the Caribbean and internationally, in a picturesque location with a family atmosphere” said Hinds.
The main act for Sunday will be International singer and Grammy Nominee – Shontelle the Barbadian singer/songwriter who has done opening acts for Beyonce. The show is produced by Tom Hinds.
