CXC Engages Stakeholders in Grenada

The Registrar of the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC), Glenroy Cumberbatch, accompanied by CXC’s webmaster, Ayo Pompey, visited Grenada during the week of Monday, 21 March 2016, as part of CXC’s Caribbean region tour.

The purpose of the visit was to conduct stakeholder meetings, to obtain feedback, suggestions and useful information that will inform CXC’s planning for the next 3 years. This effort is intended to reach a wide cross section of persons who currently use, or will benefit from CXC’s products and services.

Cumberbatch, said, “Gradually we’re recognizing that the out-of-school population — those 18 and above — are becoming a huge part of our stakeholders, and we want to engage them both.”

Looking further ahead, he also noted how CXC is aligning their goals to match the needs of the region in order to spur on productivity and sustainable growth.

Cumberbatch said the “long term plan is how we’re going to improve the region with the certified workforce, to meet the needs of the Caribbean economies. Most of the Caribbean economies have not grown for a while, and education is a critical factor, in helping provide the resources, to help those economies to grow.”

The stakeholder meetings included interaction with Government officials, including the Prime Minister; the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development; the National PTA, the Principals’ Association, representatives from the private sector, students, parents, teachers — past and present — and other stakeholders.

“It is imperative that the students have a say in the programmes we are offering — what is working well, what is not working well and what they would like to see changed,” Cumberbatch said.

CXC will publish a report detailing their findings, upon conclusion of their research.
