  • Shooting incident involving on-duty officer occurred during festival event on Sunday
  • Graphic social media video began circulating online following incident
  • RGPF release did not provide status report about officer(s) involved

The Royal Grenada Police Force (RGPF) has confirmed that 4 civilian men sustained injuries during a shooting incident involving an on-duty officer, which occurred during a festival event in the western parish of St Mark, on Sunday, 27 April 2025.

“The Royal Grenada Police Force is actively investigating a shooting incident which occurred on Sunday 27th April 2025, at Victoria, St Mark resulting in 4 men sustaining injuries,” said a news release issued by the Community Relations arm of the RGPF. The injured were taken to The General Hospital for medical attention, where they were admitted as patients. “The RGPF assures the public of a thorough investigation into the matter and urges members of the public to cooperate fully with law enforcement during this process.”

Following the incident, a graphic social media video began circulating online showing a person lying unconscious in the street, surrounded by distressed onlookers. In the footage, blood can be seen on the pavement as bystanders desperately feel for a pulse and attempt to stop the bleeding from the victim’s wounds.

The chaotic scene captured by an eyewitness showed police officers tussling with residents in the main area of the festival. Many community members can be heard voicing anger and frustration over the shooting, with some criticising police actions. Many have taken to social media, calling for a thorough investigation into the incident.

The RGPF release did not provide a status report about the officer(s) involved in the incident, but made a plea for anyone with information that may assist with the investigation to contact the Criminal Investigations Department (CID). “The Commissioner and members of the RGPF extend their best wishes for a full and speedy recovery to those affected. We also express sympathy to the families of those affected,” said the release, which promised to provide further updates “as more information becomes available.”
