The Ministry of Education, upon consultation with the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), advises the public that schools will remain closed today due to the present inclement weather conditions.
Continued heavy rainfall overnight has made some roadways either dangerous or impassible, in addition to other conditions such as landslides that make it unwise for students to be commuting.
Based on a NADMA advisory at 4 am, the forecast advised the following: “Scattered moderate convection associated with a low-level trough in the vicinity of the Windward Islands is producing moderate showers, some heavy, and isolated thunderstorms that affected Grenada throughout the night. A flood and landslide warning has been issued for the state of Grenada.”
Parents and guardians are asked to take note of this urgent advisory and make the best alternative plans for their children’s care today, ensuring that students do not venture out into unsafe situations in their absence.
The Ministry of Education regrets any inconvenience this short notice may pose, but trusts that all stakeholders will understand the need for this urgent action as a necessary safety precaution.
We urge everyone to remain safe and away from any life-threatening situations, until the present danger of flooding and landslides is no longer a threat.
