On Monday, 5 August 2024, Minister with responsibility for Mental Health Hon. Delma Thomas, accompanied by Hon. Kerryne James, Member of Parliament for St John, had the solemn duty of visiting the family of former community mental health worker, Bertrand Edwards of Grand Roy, St John.
Edwards tragically lost his life in a violent incident over the weekend, which is currently being investigated by the police.
Both MPs expressed heartfelt condolences to the grieving family, particularly to his wife, Agnes Edwards, and offered their support during this difficult time. Edwards was highly regarded in the community, having dedicated more than 35 years of service to the practice of mental health in Grenada.
At the time of his passing, he was a nursing assistant attached to the St Patrick Health District as a community mental health worker.
MP James remarked, “His sudden departure has left a void deeply felt by all who knew him.”
During the visit, both Hon. Thomas and Hon. James shared memories and listened to stories about Edwards’ dedication, compassion and the positive impact he had on the lives of many. Minister Thomas emphasised, “It was evident from the warmth and gratitude expressed by his family that he was truly cherished, not only as a professional but also as a beloved family member and friend.”
She added, “We have assured the family that Bertrand’s legacy will be honoured and remembered. We are committed to supporting them through this period of mourning and beyond.”
