The Grenada Food and Nutrition Council (GFNC) was proud to support the Diabetes Awareness Month Art Competition, organised by the St David’s branch of the Grenada Diabetes Association in collaboration with St Theresa RC School and Nahshon Jeremiah Arts.
The award ceremony took place on Wednesday, 4 February at St Theresa RC School, during the school’s first Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) meeting for 2026. The ceremony brought together students, parents, educators, and partners to celebrate creativity and healthy living.
GFNC extends heartfelt congratulations to the Grenada Diabetes Association’s St David’s Branch for being included in this important educational opportunity.
GFNC congratulates the top-performing students and commends all participants for their effort and individuality. We are proud to support initiatives that inspire children to explore healthy living in creative and meaningful ways. This art competition is a powerful reminder that education and wellness truly go hand in hand.
As part of its ongoing commitment to nutrition education for Grenada’s youth, GFNC proudly supported the competition through the following contributions:
- Presentation of a 2026-2027 Grenada’s Food Based Dietary Guideline-themed wall calendars to the second- and third-place students
- Presentation of a 2026-2027 Grenada’s Food Based Dietary Guideline-themed desk calendar to the school principal
- Provision of nutritional education materials to the PTA, encouraging continued exposure to fruits and vegetables for children, except in cases of medically diagnosed allergies
- Facilitation of a parent presentation by Masha Benjamin-Hunte, GFNC Nutritionist for St David, on practical ways to incorporate fruits and vegetables into children’s daily diets
What the students created
To connect art with healthy eating, students participated in age-appropriate creative activities designed to inspire healthy choices:
4-Year-Olds: Students coloured fruits and vegetables from GFNC-designed activity sheets, helping them identify colourful, nutritious foods in a fun and interactive way
Ages 5–8 and 9–12: Students produced original artwork (drawing, painting, or mixed media) based on 2 creative nutrition themes:
- My Lunchbox from the Garden: Illustrations featured healthy, local items such as guava, banana, mango, breadfruit chips, or homemade juice, showcasing what a strong, healthy Grenadian lunch can look like
- Shop Local, Snack Local: Artwork depicted local markets or family kitchens highlighting snacks made with local produce, encouraging families to choose foods that help children grow strong
