Final day for quarantine facilities to meet vaccination criteria

Quarantine facilities in Grenada will face removal from the Ministry of Health’s approved quarantine facility list, if their employees are not fully vaccinated.

1 June 2021 was the deadline given by the Ministry of Health for all quarantine facilities to ensure that their staff members are fully vaccinated.

The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Grenada Tourism Authority, last week embarked on the inspection of various quarantine sites across the island, a process geared towards ensuring that the workers and quarantined individuals remain safe.

Starting on Wednesday, the Ministry of Health will begin issuing warning letters to properties that are not in full compliance with this stipulation. If remedial action is not immediately taken, these properties will be delisted as quarantine facilities, effective Friday, 4 June 2021.

Health Minister Hon. Nickolas Steele explained that a quarantine facility can be reinstated when it complies with the requirements to ensure that all persons employed at the facility are vaccinated. At Tuesday’s Post-Cabinet Press Briefing, the Minister also provided clarification on the approval lists maintained by the Ministry of Health and the Grenada Tourism Authority (GTA).

The GTA list identifies properties which have completed the relevant training of staff and have been certified for opening. In the case of hotels, this applies to homestay guests only. The Ministry of Health list on the other hand, specifically identifies properties that are recognised as quarantine facilities.

The Minister further explained that a facility may be removed from the Ministry of Health’s approved list, but still be allowed to remain on the GTA’s list.

Is Grenada a democracy or a dictatorship? if we are a democratic country one has to right to refuse vaccine and anything else one thinks will harm them.. growing up I didn’t have all the required immunizations that were required as a child… no one made it mandatory.. people should be allowed to choose what’s best for them… all of this is for money!!!!

More indirect pressure for mandatory vaccination! The narrative keeps shifting, the rationale illogical, and yet it’s all without legislative underpinning. The Government of Grenada has advised that it will not be mandating vaccination, yet to do business in some sectors employers and/or agenies have mandated that their employees & service providers be vaccinated.

Take for example the Ministry of Health’s mandate that all employees at quarantine facilities be vaccinated or face removal from the list of approved facilities. This is ridiculous and contrary to the stance pronounced by the Government of Grenada as confirmed by the Prime Minister. Where does the Ministry of Health get its authority?

This snide approach to coerce people to become vaccinated by threatening livelihoods is unprincipled and puts into question the intent and ethics of those who conceptualise, implement, and insist on such covert strategies.

In recent weeks I read a policy pronouncement of a hotel in the South in which it stated that employees that choose not to become vaccinated MUST among other things, indemnify the owners/operators in the event that such an employee should contract Covid 19. The truth is the vaccination will not safeguard anyone from contracting nor transmitting Covid 19. Have we forgotten that?

I perfectly understand the concept of herd immunity, but I do not understand nor support the need to coerce undecided persons to become vaccinated.

Totally agree with your well executed statement. This makes me sad and mad at the same time. I feel it for the staff that has been caught up in this utter nonsense. Surely there must be a body or legal representation for them.

Dictatorship rules in Grenada. It’s time we stand against these dictators who muzzle its citizens.
