“Fédon’s Oasis Spa & Wellness Centre,” named after Julien Fédon, the leader of a slave revolt in Grenada from 1795-1796, has won the Caribbean Tourism Organisation’s (CTO) annual Students Colloquium Championship for New York-based Monroe College.
Monroe College announced on 9 June that 4 Caribbean students from its School of Hospitality Management and the Culinary Arts won with their presentation which addressed using the natural spices and plants of Grenada to cater to health issues such as diabetes and hypertension.
The students are from Grenada, Antigua & Barbuda, Trinidad & Tobago and the Bahamas. A spa with free holistic consultation services, a children’s wellness programme that engages clients in the natural flora and fauna of Grenada, and a restaurant that utilises the fresh fruits, vegetables and spices grown on the Grenadian soil, comprised their winning presentation.
