A number of Border control workers will next week be exposed to techniques that will provide them with an opportunity to increase their understanding about trade facilitation and the growing importance for those at border control points.
A self-assessment of compliance was recently conducted by the OECS Secretariat and their Member States, with the support of the United Nations Conference for Trade & Development (UNCTAD), with commitments from the World Trade Organization (WTO) Trade Facilitations.
The results of the assessment highlighted a number of areas in which member states could strengthen their trade facilitations efforts. As a result of this, the International Finance Corporation (IFC) will host two (2) workshops as part of its regional programme.
The workshops, Harmonized Tariff Schedule Code Classification and Risk Management for Inspections will be held at the Conference Room of the Grenada Bureau of Standards and is carded for September 9-10 and 12-13, 2013, respectively.
These workshops are expected to strengthen the region’s trade facilitation efforts by building capacity with border clearance agencies to adopt and apply the Harmonized Tariff Schedule within their operations and to assist these agencies to collect, categorize and analyze trade data to develop risk profiles.
Among the Border Clearance agencies expected to participate in the four day exercise are: Customs and Immigration Officer, Pest Control Management and the Grenada Bureau of Standards.
