The Sustainable Design Impact Hub, curated by the Council on Sustainable Fashion & Design of Grenada (CSFDG), is set to make history by featuring the first SDG Lounge to be held in the Caribbean.

Scheduled for 15–18 August 2024, this landmark event will bring together leading experts, innovators, and stakeholders to explore solutions in sustainable design and development for small island developing states (SIDS).

Building on the legacy of CSFDG’s participation at the 4th International Conference on Small Island Developing States (SIDS), where we showcased the untapped potential of the creative economies to combat the climate crisis. The Sustainable Design Impact Hub is the first annual event tapping into this potential. Join us from 15–18 August 2024 in Grenada, West Indies.

The hub will bring together global and local leaders to raise awareness of Grenada’s vulnerabilities to climate change and highlight opportunities for harnessing the power of the creative economy.

The SDG Lounge concept created by PVBLIC Foundation, aims to advance the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through collaboration, innovation, and collective effort. Since its inception, the lounge has served as a space for conversation and networking alongside UN Representatives, Heads of State, international organisations, and family offices.

Venue: Mount Cinnamon Beach Resort

Mount Cinnamon Beach Resort is the perfect backdrop for the hub, it is a locally owned resort committed to sustainable development and empowering local small business owners. Mount Cinnamon is the only resort in the Caribbean to be a member of the United Nations Global Compact and has been Green Globe Certified since 2014. Additional sessions during the hub will be available throughout the island, including a Fireside Chat event at agro-tourism landmark Belmont Estate.

Key highlights of the Sustainable Design Impact Hub:

Distinguished Speakers: The event will feature a roster of esteemed speakers, including Barry Collymore, owner of Mount Cinnamon Beach Resort and Advisory Board member of CSFDG, who will address the Built Environment as it relates to the tourism and hospitality industry on Caribbean SIDS Barry will moderate the discussion alongside local architect Irina Kostka Da Silva, Italian landscape architect and interior designer Bepi Povia, and local developer and owner of AISB Caribbean, Yannick Hiard.

Event highlights include:

  • Innovative discussions: Panels and workshops will cover a range of topics, including sustainable fashion, the impact of the built environment on climate change, and innovative strategies for reducing waste and carbon footprints in the design industry
  • Networking opportunities: Attendees will have the chance to connect with industry leaders, policymakers, and fellow innovators during dedicated networking sessions
  • Special events: The programme includes a Fireside Chat with renowned architect Bepi Povia on the topic of Roots Design and a Tea Ceremony with Modestine, a Grenadian-owned tea brand. In addition to a Beachside Chat with Emilie McGwlone, Director of Peace Boat US and Grenada’s own Minister of Climate, Hon. Kerryne James.
  • The first CSFDG Pop-Up Shop: Featuring a selection of high-quality products crafted by Grenadians and curated by CSFDG, the shop will be open from 15–18 August 2024 at Mount Cinnamon. Shop brands like Ayana B Joy Jewelry, Bohemia Grenada Resort Wear, OMI Grenada Cosmetics, Modestine loose-leaf tea, and Threaded by Siren’s “island style crochet”

Quotes: “Hosting the Sustainable Design Impact Hub in Grenada is a significant milestone for the Caribbean SIDS creative economy,” said Shannen Henry, Founder & Executive Director of CSFDG. “We are excited to bring together leaders and local stakeholders to advance sustainability in design and make a tangible impact on our communities. More importantly, we are thrilled to provide a space where local practitioners of sustainable development are heard and valued.”

Registration and Tickets: Seats for in-person attendance are limited. Register at CSFDG.com/news.
