by Grenada Food and Nutrition Council
Every January, many of us start the year with ambitious health resolutions. Whether it’s eating better, moving more, or simply taking better care of ourselves.
The challenge, however, is maintaining that momentum beyond the first few weeks. That’s where support and guidance can make all the difference. Starting this January, the Grenada Food and Nutrition Council is offering its 11th interactive nutrition support sessions every second Wednesday of each month, from 12 pm to 1 pm.
“These interactive sessions are designed to give you that midweek push you need to stay focused on your health goals,” said Charisse Bristol, Nutrition Education & Promotion Coordinator and Virtual Group Coordinator at the Council. “Just one hour can help you clear up confusion about food choices, stay motivated, and connect with others on the same journey.”
Why group-based support works
Research indicates that group-based nutrition interventions are highly effective in helping individuals adopt and maintain healthier eating habits. A 2022 systematic review published in Public Health Nutrition analysed 31 studies involving older adults and found that group nutrition education, particularly when paired with behaviour change strategies such as goal-setting and interactive discussions, significantly improved food and fluid intake and enhanced overall nutritional status. Similarly, a meta-analysis in Obesity Facts (2021) found that peer support contributed to lower weight and body mass index (BMI) among individuals with overweight and obesity, demonstrating the value of group accountability in sustaining healthy behaviours. These programmes also fostered group cohesion, enabling participants to overcome common barriers to healthy eating.
What you can expect
Each session is interactive and designed to help you:
