Her Excellency Dame Cécile La Grenade and the Government of Grenada proudly celebrate the outstanding achievements of our nationals who have been recognised in the 2025 King’s New Year’s Honours.  

These distinguished citizens have demonstrated excellence, dedication, and service across a range of sectors, and their contributions have enriched our national identity and strengthened our communities.

We extend heartfelt congratulations to the following honorees:

Order of the British Empire (OBE)

  • Ruth Elizabeth ROUSE — For Contributions to Public Service
  • Teddy Ronald ST LOUIS — For Contributions to the Public and Legal Services

Member of the British Empire (MBE)

  • Keith Emmanuel Richard WILLIAMS — For Services to Culture (Invested at Windsor Castle)
  • Annie Lauretta RUSH-BAIN — For Services to the Community
  • Mc Donald Anthony Beresford CADORE — For Services to Education

British Empire Medal (BEM)

  • Lyneth Ann EDWARDS — For Services to Culture
  • Barbara-Ann FRASER-BUCKMIRE — For Services to Sports Administration
  • Cecil GITTENS — For Services to Policing
  • Marcia Sonia JONES — For Services to Nursing

Ruth Elizabeth Rouse, OBE has had a long and distinguished career as a Grenada public servant and diplomat that has taken her to Ottawa, Canada as OECS High Commissioner; the United Kingdom as High Commissioner; Permanent Representative for Grenada to the International Maritime Organisation (IMO); Permanent Secretary for various Ministries including Education, Legal Affairs, Labour and Foreign Affairs; and completed her public service career as Secretary to the Cabinet, in January 2023.  For her dedicated and longstanding service to Grenada, former Ambassador and High Commissioner Ruth Elizabeth Rouse was invested as an Officer of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, OBE.

Keith Emmanuel Richard Williams, MBE has over 30 years of service to Grenada in the areas of culture, education and sport.  He was exposed to the art form of dance at Presentation Brothers College (PBC). Veni Vwai La Grenade Dance Company was the dance institution that nurtured and molded him into a prolific performing artiste. He has been involved in performances on the local, regional and international arena and toured with many companies and has attended many seminars and workshops. For his dedicated and longstanding service to Grenada, Williams was invested as a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire at Windsor Castle on Wednesday, 8 October 2025.

Annie Lauretta Rush-Bain has had a long career in the hairdressing, dressmaking and community services arena. After returning to Grenada from Trinidad subsequent to her schooling, she started a community small business in hairdressing as well as dressmaking in the village of Paraclete. She is deeply committed to service organisations and provided yeoman service whilst being involved in the leadership of the Lioness Club and Lions Club of St Andrew, the Union Catholic Mothers’ and the Friendship Club. For her dedicated and longstanding service to Grenada, Annie Lauretta Rush–Bain was invested as a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, MBE.

MacDonald Anthony Beresford Cadore has had a long and distinguished career as an educator before transitioning to mainstream public service, where he served in various ministries as Senior Assistant Secretary and later Senior Administrative Officer until his retirement. Additionally, he has been committed to community service. For his longstanding service to Grenada, MacDonald Anthony Beresford Cadore was invested as a Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, MBE.

Lyneth Ann Edwards began serving her community at the St Joseph’s Convent (SJC), St George and for over 60 years through art and culture, participated in numerous festivals around Grenada and the world. She participated in and staged many concerts and operas, showcasing talent through song, dance, African folk music and poetry. She also contributed to the development of culture by working with the noble men and women of the Royal Grenada Police Force band. For her dedicated and longstanding service to Grenada, Lyneth Ann Edwards was invested posthumously for meritorious civil service with the British Empire Medal, BEM. Her sister, Phyllis Francis accepted the award on her behalf.

Barbara-Ann Fraser-Buckmire has contributed to her community with over 25 years of unbroken service and dedication to the Grenada Football Association (GFA), where she held several key administrative roles.  She also has over 10 years of active community service with the St George’s Leo and Lions Clubs and is also affiliated with the Springs/Belmont Neighbourhood Association of Optimists Community Group and the Grenada Cricket Association. For dedicated and longstanding service to Grenada, Barbara-Ann Fraser-Buckmire was invested for meritorious civil service with the British Empire Medal, BEM.

Cecil Gittens embarked on a distinguished career with the Royal Grenada Police Force where he served 33 years, rising through the ranks before retiring as an Inspector in 2003. He was a respected lecturer at the Police Training School and is known for his professionalism, fairness and deep sense of duty to the people of Grenada.  For his dedicated and longstanding service to Grenada, former Inspector Cecil Gittens was invested for meritorious military service with the British Empire Medal, BEM.

Marcia Sonia Jones is employed by the Government of Grenada as a Nursing Assistant and has over 20 years’ working experience in the healthcare sector. She has a keen commitment to serving the elderly community and is President of the Elderly Missionary Support Group, a community-based organisation with special focus on the holistic development of the elderly. The Group serves the communities of Woodford, Concord and Marigot. For her dedicated and longstanding service to Grenada, Marcia Sonia Jones was invested for meritorious civil service with the British Empire Medal, BEM.

These honours reflect the spirit of Grenadian greatness — our commitment to excellence, community, and national pride. Each awardee has made a lasting impact through their work, and their recognition on the global stage is a testament to the values we hold dear.

We salute their achievements and thank them for their service.  May their stories inspire future generations to pursue greatness in service of Grenada and humanity.

    Congratulations on the Great work you all do!

    My personal view – people, especially those of African descent should not accept any awards from the so called”British Empire” especially as the British Government and monachy refuse to recognise the injustice they have done to people of African descent.

    What the British Gov. and the monachy should aim to do is pay reparation to these people and put and end to the term “British Empire” thats spilled so much blood of African people and such.
