  • Town hall discussion with Oil and Gas Working Group to held on 9 October 2025
  • Oil and Gas Working Group, chaired by Nazim Burke, will be speakers at the session
  • PM Mitchell will be at 3rd EU-Caribbean Global Gateway Conference on Sargassum in Belgium then travel to Ghana

Prime Minister Dickon Mitchell will not be in attendance in person at the 9 October 2025 town hall discussion, where the Oil and Gas Working Group, chaired by Nazim Burke, will be the speakers at the session, which will be held at the Trade Centre in Grand Anse.

“This important national engagement will feature the Oil and Gas Working Group as the main highlight of the evening. The session will provide the public with critical updates, insights, and the opportunity for dialogue on developments in Grenada’s emerging oil and gas sector and ministerial updates,” said a press release from the Government Information Service (GIS) on 2 October.

Another press release from the GIS on 6 October said that Prime Minister Mitchell will participate in the 3rd EU-Caribbean Global Gateway Conference on Sargassum, which will be held on 8–9 October in Brussels, Belgium. The Prime Minister has been one of the main speakers at all town hall sessions held by the government since the ruling National Democratic Congress was voted into office in June 2022.

According to the 2 October release, the Prime Minister Mitchell will deliver a keynote address under the theme “From Start-Up to Scale-Up: Practical Approaches to the Sargassum Value Chain,” highlighting Grenada’s innovative approach to transforming sargassum from a coastal nuisance into a valuable resource for agriculture, energy, and industry. “The conference, hosted by the European Commission in collaboration with Caribbean partners, will convene global leaders, scientists, and industry experts to tackle the environmental and economic impacts of sargassum across the Atlantic and Caribbean.”

The second Global Gateway Conference on Sargassum conference was held in Grenada in October 2024, and at the conclusion, Prime Minister Mitchell announced that Grenada will be the location for a regional sargassum secretariat and information hub, as agreed to at the Conference. Following the sargassum conference, Prime Minister Mitchell will travel to Ghana for an official visit and return to Grenada on 18 October. During his absence, Honourable Lennox Andrews will serve as Acting Prime Minister.

So right now which is more important, for our dwindling economy,
    Oil and had or sargassum?
