19 months after he was found guilty by the General Legal Council for engaging in behaviour that amounts to professional misconduct, George Prime, who was released from prison on Wednesday for contempt of court earlier this week, was again found liable for professional misconduct.
In February 2024, Prime was suspended from the Roll of Attorneys-at-Law of Grenada for 6 months after he was found guilty of serious professional misconduct by the General Legal Council pursuant to that body’s powers under Section 37(2) of the Legal Professions Act (LPA).
Following the council’s hearing earlier this week, it has forwarded a submission to a tribunal, as guided by the Legal Profession Act, which will sentence Prime, a former magistrate and government minister under the Tillman Thomas National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration.
Prime was released from Richmond Hill Prison on Wednesday after the High Court granted the application of his lawyer. Prime was sent to prison because he failed to comply with a consent order, which required him to pay EC$5,000 on the last working day of each month to a former client to whom he owes thousands.
High Court Judge Agnes Actie, on 26 June 2025, after a committal hearing, ordered that Prime pay EC$10,000 on that day to his former client or be sent to prison for contempt of court for 21 days. She further instructed that Prime pay EC$5,000 on the last working day of each month, beginning 31 July 2025, until the balance of the judgment debt, approximately EC$100,000, is paid in full.
The consent order said if Prime failed “to comply with the terms of this order proceedings may be commenced against you for contempt of court`and you may be liable to be imprisoned.” It is understood that he failed to pay as instructed and was imprisoned on Monday evening. However, a payment of EC$5,000 was made on Tuesday evening, close to 4 pm, and his lawyer filed an application in court seeking his release.
The application was heard on Wednesday morning and granted by the High Court because a payment had been made on the outstanding amount, and Nigel Stewart, the lawyer for the individual owed the money, did not object. His next payment is due on the last working day in September. Should Prime fail to pay, he can again be imprisoned for contempt of court.

Disbar this individual. He’s been getting away with too much for too long.
These corrupt lawyers are given too many chances. Its criminal activity. He should have been disbarded permanently.
How could you trust this lawyer. He should be disbared for good. People expect the people who lawfully represent them to have integrity. This guy is corrupt. He brings shame for Grenadian justice system. That people admired.
