- Original legislation established legal council of 8 people

As of 1 June 2025, the General Legal Council as mandated by the Legal Profession Act was reconstituted with a few changes to the people who will be serving for the period June 2025 to June 2028.
“Pursuant to Section 11 of the Legal Profession Act CAP. 167A, No. 25 of 2011, the Public is hereby informed that the Governor-General, Her Excellency Dame Cécile La Grenade, GCMG, acting in accordance with Section 5(2) of the Legal Profession Act, No. 25 of 2011, and amendment Act No. 27 of 2012, has appointed the following persons to the General Legal Council, with effect from 1st June 2025, for a period of three (3) years,” said a notice in the 11 July editon of the Government Gazette.
Section 1 of the Legal Profession Act states that the names of all members of the Council as first constituted, and every change in the membership thereof, shall be published in the Government Gazette..
The people appointed are:
- Justice Roslyn E Wilkinson, Chairperson
- Claudette Joseph, Attorney General
- Ruggles Ferguson KC, Member of the Inner Bar, replacing Director of Public Prosecution Christopher Nelson
- Skeeta Chitan, Member of the Bar with 10 years of practice
- Carah St Paul, Member of the Bar with 3 to 5 years of practice
- Daniel Roberts, Member representing the Public
- Michael Archibald, Member representing the Public
A review of the original legislation establishing the council shows that the council should have 8 people. That number was reduced to 7 in 2012 when parliament approved an amendment which removed the nominee to represent the Grenada Conference of Churches.
The purpose of the General Legal Council is to be concerned with the legal profession, and in particular, with regulating and upholding standards of professional conduct.
