Nutrition and Dietetics interns from T A Marryshow Community College (TAMCC) are wrapping up a 2-week immersive experience at the Grenada Food and Nutrition Council (GFNC).

During this period, they have been actively involved in hands-on activities that promote public health and nutrition education throughout Grenada.

As part of their hands-on experience, the interns have accompanied GFNC nutritionists on community outreach visits, delivering presentations on the management of chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension throughout the island. They have also taken part in home visits to clients referred for nutritional support, offering meaningful assistance and insight during these personalised consultations. In addition, the interns have collaborated with Product Development and Training Officer Arturo Plutin Soler in the GFNC test kitchen, contributing to recipe testing and food preparation for the council’s upcoming recipe book. Their culinary skills were also on display during community events like the popular Pop-Up Kitchens, where they helped showcase healthy, locally inspired dishes while engaging directly with the public. The interns are also assisting in designing virtual gardens and accompanying educational presentations to present to clients.

Plutin Soler praised the group’s professionalism and dedication, noting, “They are very focused and take their responsibilities seriously. Their strong academic background in nutrition is evident, and their work ethic is impressive.”

The interns Emma Thompson, Jemica Lessey-Thomas, Kadesha Johnson, Lemoi Richards, Maya Hazzard, Nakaela Williams, and Tasha Drakes have already made notable contributions, and GFNC is confident their impact will continue to grow. The council commends TAMCC for thoroughly preparing these students and looks forward to their continued involvement throughout this enriching internship experience. Additionally, the council commends TAMCC for thoroughly preparing these students and looks forward to their continued involvement throughout this enriching internship experience.
