The Grenada Food and Nutrition Council (GFNC) has set the dates for the 2025 National Nutrition Quiz as 10 April for the primary schools and 29 April for the secondary schools.

The schools given the opportunity to defend their championship titles are Limes Mennonite School (Primary) and Bishop’s College (Secondary).

The top 3 winners in both the primary and secondary categories will receive attractive prizes, including educational materials, physical activity tools, day passes at True Blue Bay Resort, and opportunities to participate in health-related events. These prizes not only celebrate academic success but also inspire students to continue exploring health and wellness topics, benefitting their personal growth and the community’s future wellness.

Participating in nutrition contests exposes students to careers like sports nutritionists, dietitians, food scientists, and nutrition educators, helping them review and reinforce classroom knowledge. The questions are based on food, nutrition, and health curriculum, making learning fun and aiding in better retention. Therefore, these contests not only benefit their academic journey but also inspire lifelong healthy habits.

Charisse Bristol, GFNC’s Nutrition Education and Promotion Coordinator and chair of the quiz planning committee, notes that the quiz is a great opportunity for students and schools. “It serves as an excellent platform for students to enhance their knowledge of healthy eating habits, nutrition science, and the importance of maintaining a balanced diet. By engaging in this quiz, students gain a deeper understanding of how nutrition affects physical and mental well-being, which they can apply in their everyday lives. For schools, it’s an opportunity to foster a sense of healthy competition, promote teamwork, and encourage academic excellence outside traditional subjects. It also raises awareness about the importance of nutrition education, aligning with broader health initiatives within the school curriculum.”

At the conclusion of the March zonal contests, GFNC will announce the schools that have advanced to the national finals. This competition has been running for over 2 decades among secondary schools and since 2021 for primary schools. The council extends an invitation for the public to support and encourage the students in this endeavour.

To stay updated on the event and access valuable resources on healthy eating and nutrition practices, be sure to follow GFNC’s Facebook and YouTube pages.
