The Grenada Food and Nutrition Council (GFNC) continues to take deliberate steps to engage with the community, exemplified by its successful World Water Day event on 21 March 2025 in partnership with the National Water and Sewerage Authority (Nawasa).

Recognising the vital role of water in daily life, GFNC and Nawasa brought together students, teachers, and members of the public for an interactive day of education and awareness.

From a 30-minute community educational walk to hands-on activities that rewarded participants with memorabilia from Nawasa and GFNC, as well as informative booths, the event underscored the importance of sustainable water practices, particularly in a region reliant on rainwater harvesting and desalination.

Under the theme “Glacier Preservation,” more than 100 patrons had the opportunity to sample Nawasa’s desalinated chloride water, naturally flavoured by GFNC with lemon (fruit), Bois d’Inde leaf and cinnamon (spice), cucumber and ginger (vegetable and spice), and mint (herb) each in separate bottles.

Additionally, attendees were able to taste 3 of the above flavours (excluding mint) using Boley Spring Water. Through thought-provoking presentations and direct community engagement, GFNC reaffirmed its commitment to encouraging healthier beverage choices by replacing sugary sodas and artificially sweetened juices with water.

This initiative provided practical knowledge and reinforced GFNC’s role as a champion for sustainable and healthy lifestyles. By fostering collaboration and creating impactful experiences, GFNC remains dedicated to leading programmes that encourage healthier, more environmentally conscious communities.

Acknowledgments

GFNC extends its heartfelt gratitude to Jamila Lewis, Communications Supervisor at Nawasa, and her team for their unwavering collaboration and dedication, which played a vital role in the success of this event. Special thanks are also due to:

  • The Ministry of Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government for their invaluable support
  • The Officers of I/C Northern Division for permitting the event and providing an escort throughout
  • Nurse Lynette Stanisclaus for her medical presence and assistance during the walk
  • Ken Joseph for supplying tents, tables, and chairs
  • John Guadeloupe for generously sponsoring Boley Spring Natural Artisan Water, adding a refreshing flavour option to the experience
  • DJ Jack Almighty for setting an energetic tone with vibrant music and engaging announcements

Most importantly, GFNC thanks all attendees for their participation and support, helping to make this event a resounding success.

Why is nawasa spending time doing photo ops instead of supplying water.

The jokers going from bad to worst!
