Minister for Sports Hon. Delma Thomas toured the National Cricket Stadium with officials from the Ministry of Sports and the Chinese Embassy on Wednesday, 2 October, to gain an understanding of the project’s scope and renovations thus far.
Renovations are anticipated to be completed by March 2025 and ready for handover in the first quarter of 2025.
“I’m happy to be here, appreciating the importance of the cricket stadium for us as a government and for the people of Grenada, and I look forward to visiting the other facilities as we work to uplift sports across Grenada,” said Minister Thomas.
The minister also highlighted that developing grassroots sports is high on the Government’s agenda, and the development of playing fields is one of its priorities to facilitate such.
“We are also looking at the issue of grassroot sports, so in addition to the National Stadium, it means that we will be developing our playing fields across the tri-island state,” she emphasised. Work is currently underway on the Fond Playing Field in St Patrick, and others are in line to receive the attention required to improve sports in other areas.
This is the first of many engagements in which the Minister will participate as she learns more about the ministry’s efforts to promote youth and sports development.
