The St Patrick’s Youth Organisation (SPYO) in collaboration with the Investment Migration Agency (IMA) is excited to announce the launch of the 2024 Annual Primary School Debate Competition.
This year’s competition is designed to engage young minds and cultivate essential skills in critical thinking, public speaking, and teamwork. The competition is open to all primary schools from the parishes of St Patrick, St John, St Mark, and St Andrew, and will take place from 8 October to 27 November 2024.
The Primary School Debate Competition aims to create a dynamic platform where students from grades 5 and 6 can explore important social issues, express their opinions, and learn to appreciate differing viewpoints. Participants will engage in structured debates, honing their ability to articulate arguments, think on their feet, and collaborate with peers.
“This annual event continues to benefit our primary school participants and with the support of IMA, we are able to take the competition to the next level and make an even greater influence on the next generation of debaters,” said Brent Alexander, President of SPYO. “As a youth organisation, we look forward to what this debating season has to offer and providing a platform which has the ability to positively impact the overall development of the participating students.”
The competition will consist of several preliminary rounds, culminating in a grand finale where the top teams will compete for the title of Debate Champions. Each participant will receive certificates of achievement, and awards will be given for outstanding performances in various categories, including Best Speaker and Best Rebuttal Speaker.
The competition has also received sponsorship from Rubis Caribbean (Grenada) Ltd., True Blue Bay Resort, Republic Bank Grenada Ltd., SOL Grenada Ltd., Grenada National Lotteries Authority, and Ariza Credit Union.
