The St Patrick Environmental and Community Tourism Organisation (SPECTO) launched its 2024 Beach Aesthetic Rehabilitation (BAR) on Saturday, 2 March 2024, at Levera Beach and the Levera Pond Ramsar site #2034.
The Grenada Sustainable Development Trust Fund Inc. volunteers were one of the organisations joining the launch on 2 March 2024 in support of the conservation and management of natural resources within the community. The launch was followed by the first community clean up on Sunday, 3 March with the community of Rose Hill, community volunteers. During this exercise over 50 bags of garbage mainly plastics were collected in these 2 beaches and part of the Levera wetlands Levera Pond.
The initiative prepares beaches in the north for the nesting season of the endangered female leatherback turtles known to nest on all beaches in St Patrick, especially Levera, one of the most popular nesting and hatching sites for these endangered species.
The Beach Aesthetic Rehabilitation (BAR) will continue every Sunday during March. SPECTO will be joined also by Belmont Estate, St Patrick Youth Organisation, and other community volunteers to continue this coastal programme.
