The T A Marryshow Community College invites applications from suitably qualified persons to fill the positions of Financial Officer & Accounts Officer in the Bursar’s Office.
The holders of these 2 posts are directly responsible to the Bursar for the proper functioning of their duties.
FINANCIAL OFFICER
Job Description:
- To assist the Bursar in the preparation of the annual budget of the college
- To assist the Bursar in ensuring proper accounting procedures such as daily posting of all ledgers, both general and subsidiary as related to expenditure
- To be responsible for conducting routine internal financial and accounting controls
- To assist in the preparation of financial reports, statements and forecasts at such times as may be required by the Bursar
- To maintain and update the fixed assets register on an ongoing basis and to ensure the physical presence of items listed therein, and that they are in proper condition and at approximate values listed
- To be responsible for the maintenance of the college’s inventory in conjunction with the Schools and Departments
- To review the college’s purchasing history on a semester basis to ensure that the approved supplier list is adhered to and that procurement is done in accordance with the Public Procurement and Disposal of Property Act
- To perform the bank reconciliation of the college’s accounts; and
- To perform any other related duties that may be assigned from time to time
Qualifications:
Candidates should have attained a Master’s Degree in a Financial or Accounting area or equivalent professional certification.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Strong record in financial management
- Excellent analytical skills
- Strong knowledge of computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, communication, and software with specialised accounting and financial management
- Strong organising, coordinating, and interpersonal skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments.
- An ability to work collaboratively with all stakeholders

ACCOUNTS OFFICER
Job Description
- Prepare and process all payroll transactions
- Distribute pay slips to all employees – Council and PSC
- Process accounting entries related to the Mirabeau Campus and prepare management reports (monthly)
- To assist with the coordination of cashing duties and cash transactions
- To assist with the coordination of accounts receivables transactions
- Prepare costing reports by Schools/Departments/Programmes (on a semester basis)
- Conduct routine internal (financial and accounting) controls
- Assist in ensuring proper accounting procedures including the reconciling of general ledger accounts (daily)
- Assist in the coordination of income and expenditure related to projects
- Assist with, inter alia, the preparation of computations, budget, reports and correspondences
- Maintain inventory accounts
- Review invoices and other accounting documentation for accuracy and completeness and process payments under their relevant headings
- Ensure that documents are properly filed and retrievable
- Perform other related duties assigned from time to time
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Finance/Accounting or equivalent professional certification
- At least 2 years experience working in an accounting environment
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to use an automated accounting system. Strong knowledge of computer applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation, communication, and software with specialised accounting and financial management
- Ability to prepare financial reports
- Knowledge of the college’s policies and procedures relevant to the personnel and payroll benefits
- Sufficient accounting knowledge and understanding of Accounting Standards
- Ability to use independent judgment in carrying out job responsibilities
- Ability to research and resolve problems and follow through with minimal supervision
- Ability to take the initiative to solve complex payroll problems
- Ability to perform detailed work and complex calculations with a high degree of accuracy
- Ability to set priorities and complete tasks within tight deadlines
