Executives of the bank are in high praise for the organisers, stakeholders, volunteers and 25 participating secondary schools after the successful conclusion of the 2023 Republic Bank Inter-Secondary Schools Athletic Championships (Intercol).

Following 3 days of keen rivalry, St David’s Catholic Secondary School (SDCSS) outpaced 24 other competing schools to lift the combined champion’s cup. SDCSS dominated the games, placing 1st in the female championship, amassing 335 points. Anglican High School (AHS) was second with 221.5 points, and St Joseph’s Convent, St George’s third, with 183.5 points.

The Grenada Boys Secondary School (GBSS) amassed the highest team scores in the male championship, with an unbeaten 331.5 points, edging out St Andrew’s Anglican Secondary School (SAASS) into second place by only 2.5 points. SDCSS placed third with 212 points. The victor and victrix ludorum went to Crystophe Calliste of SAASS and Cheffonia Houston of AHS.

Commenting on the championships, Managing Director Naomi De Allie commended the Grenada Association of Principals of Secondary Schools (GAPSS) and other stakeholders for the high standard of execution of the first 3-day event hosted under the title sponsorship of Republic Bank: She said: “Hats off” to the Association for seeing it fit to introduce 2 new events and also to feature some of our Paralympic athletes. This speaks well for the growth and development of Grenada’s premier track and field competition. The Intercol Championship is well-aligned with Republic Bank’s Power to Make A Difference programme, which is designed to form powerful connections to help build a better tomorrow.”

The Republic Bank Intercol Championship 2023 was held over three days, 28 – 30 March, with a sold-out crowd on day 3. All 25 secondary schools participated, and the Bank commends the principals, coaches and parents for their roles in preparing the 1,200 athletes for the keen competition and fine display of sportsmanship shown at the event.

Republic Bank remains committed to the development of our youth through Sports.
