The ship that has been wrecked on the Lauriston Beach Behind Sands for almost 10 years will soon be removed.
A contract has been approved for the removal of the wreckage.
The wreckage removal is part of the Enhanced Direct Access Project Lauriston Restoration and Rehabilitation Project. Funding for the project is being provided by the Green Climate Fund and the Government of Grenada, through the Ministry of Economic Development, Planning, Tourism, ICT, Creative Economy, Agriculture and Lands, Fisheries and Cooperatives.
Hon. Tevin Andrews, Minister for Carriacou and Petite Martinique Affairs and Local Government, has called on the Grenada Ports Authority to play an important role in wreckage removal. The Minister made the call at the launch of the project in January.
Another component of the project is the replanting of mangrove trees. This has started through the efforts of the Grenada Fund for Conservation and the local NGO Kipanji.
The overall goal of the project is to increase the resilience of the coastal area along the Lauriston Main Road to Lauriston Point, and to reduce and reverse the ongoing impacts of climate change on the sensitive coastal area.

Well duh. Good luck with the Mangroves but replanting is rarely successful. Make a LAW that they CANNOT be removed not for any stinking development.
