Heng Sheng (Grenada) PTE. Ltd, developers of the Grenada National Resort project, is committed to ensuring that the development is inclusive and transparent, with the full involvement of all relevant stakeholders.

To promote public awareness and encourage participation in the project’s decision-making process, the 5th public consultation was held on Saturday, 11 February 2023, at Patrick’s RC School.

The project team from Singapore Heng Sheng (Grenada) Development Pte. Ltd, consisting of Kevin Zhu, David Wong and EIA Consultant Edward Niles, was in attendance to present an overview of the project, including its design and scope, potential impacts, and mitigation measures. During the Q&A session, stakeholders asked questions and provided feedback on the project.

The public consultation was successful in engaging the community and addressing their concerns regarding the project. The project team took note of the feedback received and addressed questions on potential impacts on the environment, the economy, and the local community. In conclusion, the public consultation was well attended and successfully ensured the community’s continued involvement in the development process.

“The Grenada National Resort project team is committed to working closely with the local community and government to ensure the project is developed in a responsible and sustainable manner,” said Kevin Zhu, the project leader. “We value the feedback received and will continue to review and consider the concerns raised by the community.”

The project team presented an overview of the project, including the golf course design concept, infrastructure and transportation, water treatment, and local employee hiring plan. The company has taken the initiative to review and consider the concerns raised by the community and is committed to addressing them.

“Heng Sheng is dedicated to reducing the impact on the environment, providing support for Northern Grenada in terms of municipal infrastructure and transportation facilities, and committing to sustainable practices in water supply and sewage treatment. The Grenada National Resort project team is excited to bring this world-class development to Grenada, which will drive employment, increase tax revenue, and stimulate the economy,” said David Wong, Managing Director of Project Development Centre.

    Inclusive, transparent,current buzz words.
Make good and let us see the agreement that you signed with Government under the last administration. What public lands at Levera were sold to you, at what price, what concessions were given? Was part of the deal to give you some of the wetlands included in the internationally protected area under Ramsar, hence the attempt by you and the Government to quietly attempt to reconfigure the site?
Tell the public and your CBI investors about the current litigation in which your company is involved along with the La Sagesse and Mt Hartman developers. What are your contingency plans if there is a ruling adverse to your company?

Why does Grenada need more of this type of investment? I am tired of hearing these ignorant capitalistic statements. Grenada is a small polity that could do just fine with a very isolated economy and books balanced by the industry it currently has.

No, Grenada does NOT need foreign firms coming in and facilitating class division, crime, and environmental devastation.

This is capitalist propaganda that tells less powerful foreign countries that they ‘need’ the west and European investment in order to progress. When in reality, these types of arrangements have done nothing but destroy local economies, the environment and domestic socio-cultural frameworks.

Just another bunch of BLAH BLAH BLAH that in fact means nothing!!

You are being lied to. Almost everyone at this consultation had major problems with the project and no one from the developers side had any answers, except empty promises. They want to drain the Levera pond and use it to water their golf course.

Who is responsible for this propaganda? We are Grenadians, a proud and revolutionary people. Outsiders should not be able to tell us what they are going to do here, but rather, we must put them in their place tell them that we cannot do these things in their country. Furthermore, Grenada is too important to be left to Grenadians for they have been proven incapable of protecting our patrimony. For this reason, I propose that members of the diaspora should be able to vote through local embassies to ensure that future leaders reflect our nationalist spirit for we are keenly aware that in another one or two generations all could be lost.

This consultation makes no sense as the executive decisions are already made. There is no way the government should approve such project without first confirming that the investor has the capacity to address environmental concerns.

What were/ are the investor and government contingency plans?

For example, could the area handle a 500 room property or could the investor build five 100 rooms hotel at 5 different locations in Grenada.

What government concessions were offered to make the project a success?

Is there enough revenue generated which can be used for public infrastructure such roads, water and utilities…

A project that size requires lots planning ahead of time, especially, when they many other stakeholders involved.

      • Sandy says:

So this talking with locals seems to be a gimmick…

A project like this a lot of skilled labor.

How many workers will be imported before, during and after construction?

More than likely most of food supplies required to feed the guest will be imported.

        • Sandy says:

Overall Grenada needs lots more of this type of investment. However, it will be great to see government policies guide these projects/investment. For example, hotel must invest rain harvesting, desalination plants, solar energy, wind farmd, percentage of locals that must be employed, corporate and social responsibility etc.

Hotel that size must be able to generate 50% of electricity from renewable energy.

No They DON’T!!! The continued destruction of Grenada with these huge developments is NOT what is needed. No stupid golf courses are needed!! They demand CLEAR CUTTING of the rainforest and have huge demands of potable water along with OVERUSE of FERTILIZERS which will wash into fresh water and into the ocean upsetting the eco system upsetting the environment. GRENADA doesn’t even have enough fresh water to supply the needs of the LOCALS with the water system CONSTANTLY being SH UT OFF to many areas. You stupid people ignoring what Chinese investment has done to other small islands around the world.

These types if resorts are NOT the reason most Tourists visit. The real reason is that Grenada was NOT overdeveloped and made to look like these generic UGLY concrete monstrosities that line the beaches of Mexico and other Caribbean islands.

You claim you want to preserve INTANGIBLE HERITAGE and CUSTONS, these kind if developments DESTROY your culture, your style of architecture your very personality in exchange for turning your assets into piles of concrete so you no longer look like yourselves but the ugly exploiting crap we see all over the world perpetuated by North American standards. Instead keep the TRUE CARIBBEAN alive.
