The Child Protection Authority (CPA) notes with concern the growing trend of minors attending social events that cater to adults and therefore involve adult situations.
As Grenada and the rest of the world continue to adjust to what is the new normal amidst the ongoing Covid-19 global health pandemic, comes the return of social events and activities, including the build-up to SpiceMas 2022.
There have been reports of children engaging in illegal activities, such as underage drinking, smoking and sexually explicit situations at these events.
As you may be aware, the CPA is constantly working to ensure the safety of the nation’s children, including but not limited to ensuring they participate in and witness activities and events that are age-appropriate.
We imagine that many parents and guardians may be facing a dilemma to find supervisory arrangements for their children while they attend these social activities that are growing in frequency, and their children may be attending these events unknowing to them.
The Authority is seeking the cooperation of our stakeholders, including the Royal Grenada Police Force, the Spicemas Corporation, political parties, event promotors and security officers in ensuring caution, child protection and safety are the watchwords during these highly charged social times.

Isn’t there high school I.D cards? One would expect I.D requirements at events and one is denied entry without a valid I.D. There are laws which prohibit the sale of alcohol to minors.
I will like to see a more aggressive approach in dealing with incest, sexual abuse prevention. Making resources available to immediately remove children in vulnerable environments.
