Marcus “Grizzly” Alexander, who is no stranger to the Strong Man Competitions locally and internationally, returned home with a number of trophies from his latest feat.
Alexander, alongside his other Grenadian counterpart, Dominic Pierre, represented the Spice Isle at the Oregon Feats of Strength in Prineville, Oregon on 18 March 2017. Grizzly copped first place in the Novice Heavy Weight category, while Pierre placed second.
The two Grenadian heavy weights competed among 100 participants from the international arena. Notably, there were the only competitors from the Caribbean.
According to Marcus, this is his second time in this competition – last year he placed 4th, as his most challenging category was the Stones. However, this year, he made a marvelous come back and broke a record in the said category.
He won first place in the Dead Lift category, finished second in the One Arm Dumbbell section as well as in the Husafell Carry.
Having to strike the balance between his education and his training, Marcus said he was able to pull through and go beyond to work out all the odds. He is currently a student at the St George’s University and is expecting to graduate in May of this year.
In an interview with NOW Grenada, an elated Marcus revealed that his goal is to compete in the World’s Strongest Man Competition, and this competition in Oregano was “just a stepping stone for what is ahead.” He said it is a dream come true to him and “his journey [has] just begun.” However, this is his greatest achievement thus far.
