The first set of soil samples was collected on Tuesday as part of the National Soil Survey.
The Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management Support Office for the Caribbean (PISLM), in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Lands, Fisheries and Cooperatives, is conducting the survey across the tri-island.
It is being done under the CSIDS-SOILCARE Phase 1 project.
The samples were collected in the Eastern Agricultural District by Extension officers and assistants, with support from the Land Use Department of the Ministry of Agriculture & Lands, Fisheries & Cooperatives and Micah Martin from the University of the West Indies (St Augustine Campus).
The National Soil Sampling Survey falls under component one of the 5-component project. It will provide Grenada with updated soil maps, which will aid in achieving set Land Degradation Neutrality (LDN) targets and goals.
The National Soil Sampling Survey was launched at the Public Workers Union Building conference room on Monday.
