Prime Minister, Dr the Right Honourable Keith Mitchell has extended hearty congratulations to Hollice “Mr Killa” Mapp for running away with the International Soca Monarch crown in Trinidad and Tobago last Friday.

Mr Killa’s massive hit, “Run Wid It” stole the hearts of carnival lovers and earned the nod for the top spot from judges of the competition.

Dr Mitchell who has already communicated personal congratulations to Mr Mapp said he has done Grenada proud.

“The song was obviously a crowd favourite going into the competition and the outstanding performance by Hollice on the night clearly sealed the deal. I am immensely proud of this talented young man who came from humble beginnings to achieve this notable feat. I hope this win is a fitting tribute to his work ethic and determination and that it serves to encourage or inspire others who have a dream. We look forward to him continuing to represent Grenada on the world stage; he is a true Grenadian ambassador,” he said.

Four other Grenadian artistes participated in Friday’s competition, which featured groovy and power categories. Hector “Mr Legz” Thomas was third in the power competition while Jevaughn John, also known as V’ghn, was third in the groovy category.

The Prime Minister commended all the artistes for representing Grenada well. “I think the 2019 Trinidad and Tobago carnival season is one Grenadians will remember for a long time, with 5 of our artistes performing in the International Soca Monarch competition and 3 of them earning top spots. It illustrates the significant growth of the local artform, with our artistes proving that they are among the best in the region. I am very proud of all of them and extremely grateful for what their excellent representation means for promoting Grenada and our culture.”

The Government of Grenada is planning a welcome home celebratory event for the artistes. Details of this will be forthcoming.
