“This is indeed a special occasion for the Government and People of Grenada,” Minister Thomas said, upon receipt of the architectural documents.
According to the Housing Minister, the Chinese Government, who had already fulfilled their part of the commitment by doing the infrastructural work on the remaining 351 houses, consented to doing the additional work of completing the units with electricity, water and sewage facilities, after the present administration sought its assistance.
“We are very appreciative to the People’s Republic of China for coming to our aid at this time,” Minister Thomas said.
“Although it took a while, we are very thankful for their assistance in completing these houses, which are urgently needed.”
Speaking on the behalf of the People’s Republic of China, Her Excellency Ou Bo Quian expressed her joy to be able to present Grenada with the long awaited documents.
“I am so happy to present the design maps to Minister Thomas. We finished our study work over a month ago and now that the maps are here, we can continue our work,” her Excellency Ou Bo Quian said.
The Chinese Ambassador also conveyed her hopes for the Grenadian people through the project.
“We hope that this housing project could be of help to the Grenadian people and give them the opportunity to have a better house, a better life and a better living.”
Minister Thomas said that her Ministry is looking forward to working along with the People’s Republic of China in commencing work on the second phase of the housing project, which will see the construction of an additional one thousand low-income houses in Grenada in the not-too-distant future.
