Record number of Chevening Scholarships awarded

2016 sees a record number of Chevening Scholars being awarded to nationals of Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean, with 18 awarded in total. The Scholars were presented with certificates by High Commissioner Victoria Dean at a ceremony at the British High Commission.

Awardees are:

Barbados

  • Firhaana Bulbulia studying Education, Gender and International Development at UCL Institute of Education University of London
  • Jamalia Wyllie studying Renewable Energy: Technology and Sustainability at the University of Reading

Antigua and Barbuda

  • Kurt Williams studying International Relations: Politics, Governance and Development Policy at the University of Manchester

Dominica

  • Cherysa Anselm studying Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering at UCL University of London
  • Fernillia Felix studying International Human Rights and Social Justice Law at London Metropolitan University
  • Oscar George studying Economic Development and Policy Analysis at the University of Nottingham

Grenada

  • Zoe Hagley studying Development Management at LSE University of London
  • Kinna Marrast Victor studying International Business Law at Queen Mary University of London

St Kitts and Nevis

  • Shanelle Simmonds studying International Studies and Diplomacy at SOAS University of London

St Lucia

  • Tommy Descartes studying Economics and Econometrics at the University of Nottingham
  • Melissa Hippolyte–Descartes studying Economics at the University of Nottingham
  • Christal Jean studying Genetic Manipulation and Molecular Cell Biology at the University of Sussex
  • Ernette Kangal studying Commercial and Corporate Law at Queen Mary University of London
  • Tevin Shepherd studying International Social Development at the University of East Anglia
  • Miguel Trim studying Media and International Development at the University of East Anglia

St Vincent and the Grenadines

  • Bradley Douglas studying Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security at Newcastle University
  • Jeville John studying Law at University College London

 

The Chevening Scholarships scheme is the global scholarship programme of the British government. The Scholarships are awarded to exceptional individuals with leadership potential and they enable recipients to study one-year Masters courses in a range of subjects at UK universities. The Scholarships are funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and aim to support UK foreign policy priorities by creating lasting positive relationships with future leaders, influencers and decision makers.
