The Britannia made its first call to Grenada on Thursday, 5 November with 3,664 passengers. This 1083–foot cruise ship was launched and named by Her Majesty the Queen in March, and bears the Union Jack on its bow.
“It is exciting to have such a new ship berth in Grenada! To be placed on the cruise line’s Caribbean itinerary means that British nationals can get an authentic Grenadian experience that will hopefully encourage future visits to our islands. Almost all the passengers on board were British nationals,” said an elated Mrs Nikoyan Roberts, Nautical Development Manager at the GTA.
The Minister for Tourism & Civil Aviation, Hon. Yolande Bain-Horsford led a team of tourism stakeholders aboard the vessel, where an official plaque exchange ceremony was held with Captain Paul Brown.
The Britannia is part of P&O Cruise Lines that will bring 20% of cruise business to Grenada during the 2015/2016 cruise season. Grenada expects 9 more calls from the MV Britannia by the end of the season in May 2016.
The Grenada Tourism Authority greeted the passengers of the new cruise ship with lively steel pan music and energetic folk dances.
