With the opening of the new School Term on Monday, 13 April 2015, the school population at Grand Anse RC School and Calliste Government School will benefit from the reintroduction of the services of the school crossing (lollipop) wardens.
These volunteer wardens will be stationed in strategic points along Maurice Bishop Highway, to ensure the safe crossing of children to and from school.
An initiative of South St George Police Station and its Citizen Advisory Body, the wardens will be in operation between the hours of 7:30 am and 9:00 am, and 2:15 pm and 3:30 pm every school day.
The school crossing points will be on the opposite side to the entrance of Grand Anse RC School in the vicinity of L L Ramdhanny True Value and at the Calliste junction.
The motoring public is urged to obey the order to stop by these wardens as well as observe the lollipop warden signs that are erected along the highway. Parents and guardians are encouraged to instill in their children the importance of following the instructions of the wardens and to be respectful.
Meanwhile, the RGPF is making a general plea to all motorists to operate their vehicles in a safe and responsible manner and to obey the traffic regulations. The motoring public is reminded that the illegal/reckless operation of vehicles is a danger to children, pedestrians and the general public at large.
Likewise the police are urging parents and guardians to ensure their young ones remain safe by developing an awareness of road and traffic safety.
