Police have launched an investigation, to take into custody the man who attacked a Government Minister in the heart of the city on Thursday night.

Minister Alvin Dabreo said that around 7:15 pm he was driving through St George’s, when a man walked into his vehicle and violently punched him in his face while he was still sitting in his vehicle.

“I was making a right turn on Halifax Street next to Scotiabank, when someone just walked into my vehicle, damaging the mirror. Before I could stop and park the vehicle, I just felt a punch to the face — a nasty punch to the right side of my face, and a man telling me I bounced him. I instantly decided to pull over on the left side of the road, and then [received] another punch to the neck,” said Dabreo, who is the Minister for responsible for ICT (Information and Communications Technology).

Within seconds of the minster being assaulted, a crowd began to gather, and although the young man walked away from the scene, the Minister said that he was able to give the police a good description of the man with the help of other persons.

“I gave the police a good description of him and they are looking for him. The other persons in the car and others who were standing around and witnessed the incident, were also able to assist with the description of the man,” said Dabreo, who represents the Constituency of St John in the Lower House of Parliament.

“So right now I have given the police a statement, I visited the doctor and was provided with medication for pain and swelling,” said the Minister who was heading to his home in Westerhall, after visiting his constituency earlier in the day.

On the same street last week Thursday, a Corporal of Police was assaulted by a civilian when the officer attempted to arrest him for violating the Road Traffic Act.
