A new era of healthcare is dawning for the sister islands as Minister for Health Hon. Phillip Telesford announced major milestones in the reconstruction and enhancement of local medical services.
Leading a high-level delegation — including Chief Medical Officer Dr Shawn Charles—to assess recovery efforts, Minister Telesford confirmed that the Petite Martinique Health Centre is entering its final phase. “Based on conversations with the contractor, work should be completed in June,” the minister stated, signalling a nearing end to the island’s wait for a modernised, resilient facility.

The minister expressed high satisfaction with the “level of progress” across Carriacou, noting that the Mt Pleasant Medical Station is the final major piece of the puzzle nearing completion.
A major highlight of the tour was the visit to the new containerised clinic in Bellevue South, a strategic donation from the US Southern Command. In a move that will significantly “lift the profile of healthcare services,” the minister revealed that laboratory services will soon be offered here.

Dr Charles emphasised the clinical impact of these upgrades, stating, “By bringing diagnostic capabilities like laboratory testing directly to the community, we are reducing wait times and ensuring faster, more accurate treatment for our patients.”
Minister Telesford reaffirmed the government’s commitment to delivering a first-class health system, ensuring that every citizen in the sister isles has access to the high-quality care they deserve.
