Grenada Paralympic Committee Inc. (GPC) will host its biggest Paralympic event since its formation less than a decade ago.
This weekend and continuing until next Tuesday, 2 of the most significant personalities in global Paralympic sports, along with 7 presidents of Caribbean Paralympic Committees, will be in Grenada for the launch of the Caribbean Adaptive Sports Alliance (CASA).
President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Andrew Parson from Brazil, and President of the Americas Paralympic Committee (AmPC) Julio César Ávila of Colombia, will officiate at the launch of the Caribbean Adaptive Sports Alliance this Sunday at the Radisson Beach Resort, Grand Anse, St George.
Grenada’s Minister of Youth and Sports, the Honourable Delma Thomas, will address the event and formally launch the regional umbrella grouping.
The Caribbean Adaptive Sports Alliance, or CASA, is a partnership of 8 Paralympic Committees across the region, united by one vision — to create opportunities for athletes with disabilities to train, compete, and excel.
President of CASA Barbadian Martin Jackman said this organisation is about more than competition. It is about inclusion, building stronger communities, and giving every athlete — regardless of ability — the chance to dream and to achieve.
With the support of the International and Americas Paralympic Committees, “CASA will serve as a platform for collaboration, resource sharing, and development, ensuring that the Caribbean is fully part of the global Paralympic movement,” said Ray Roberts, President of the Grenada Paralympic Committee.
The Grenada Ministry of Youth and Sports is providing logistical and operational support in hosting this event.
Meanwhile, President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Andrew Parsons will begin a busy schedule in Grenada on Saturday morning, meeting with para-athletes, coaches, and officials at the Kirani James Stadium, the La Sagesse Playing Field, and the Youth Centre.
During his visit, Parsons will also make courtesy calls on government officials and meet with the newly appointed leadership of the Caribbean Adaptive Sports Alliance (CASA) and the attending officials of the National Paralympic Committees in the region.
As part of CASA’s official launch, the Americas Paralympic Committee (AmPC) will host a 2-day Governance and Sports Management Workshop for Caribbean delegates and their Grenadian counterparts.
