St George’s University (SGU) proudly announces the launch of the 2025 SGU Education Summit, a groundbreaking 2-day event that will gather regional and international educators, scholars, creatives, and students under the theme “Transformative Education in Local Communities.”
The summit takes place on 22–23 May 2025, from 8 am to 4 pm, at the Bourne Lecture Hall and Andrew Belford Centre at the Chancellor Charles Modica Campus. Registration is ongoing at [email protected].
This year’s summit is a highly anticipated follow-up to the inaugural event held in May 2023, which focused on “The Future of Education in Developing States.” That first gathering successfully brought together academic and youth voices to reimagine education through innovation and equity. The 2025 summit builds on that momentum and expands the dialogue to include new voices, deeper collaborations, and broader thematic engagement.
Attendees can expect a rich and interactive program featuring:
- 27 presentations by local, regional, and global thought leaders
- 27 academic presentations
- 11 hours of certified professional development
- 4 plenary sessions aligned with sub-themes: health education and community, global education and technology, medical education and business, and educational research and practice
- 8 exhibition booths from educational and professional organisations
- 2 student-led panel discussions
- 1 creatives-focused discussion exploring identity, culture, and education “This year’s summit is more than a conference — it is a community experience,” said Dr Caroline Henry, Summit Planning Committee member and director of the Leadership Excellence in Academics and Development (LEAD) Division, and Master of Education programme. “It offers a space to reimagine the classroom, amplify diverse voices, and build bridges between research and real-world impact.”
Signature events include:
- Elder’s Assembly: A cultural keynote session led by distinguished Caribbean scholars including Dr Merle Collins and Dr Antonia MacDonald-Smythe, Dr Oliver Benoit, and Dr Angus Martin, featuring storytelling, dance, and historical reflection
- Creatives Panel: Featuring fashion designer, Fe Noel, Broadway performer, Oneika Phillips, globally awarded architect, Irina Kostka, and other cultural innovators discussing the role of art in education
- Youth Panels: Secondary school and community college students share lived experiences navigating education in today’s digital and community landscapes
- Cutting-edge sessions on AI in classrooms, neurodevelopmental learning, inclusive pedagogy, and transforming medical education through innovation and sustainability
Among this year’s featured speakers are Dr Kris Alexander, educational technologist and TED presenter; Dr Triston Smith, a Harvard-trained cardiologist and medical educator; and Dr Nadia Lopez, global education leader and founder of Mott Hall Bridges Academy.
SGU’s LEAD Division will also recognise outstanding faculty achievements, including the inaugural LEAD Learning Leader Award for sustained excellence in professional development.
The summit is open to educators across all levels, students, community stakeholders, and members of the public committed to shaping equitable, creative, and culturally relevant education.
