Carnival Cruise Lines returned to Grenada for the 2014/2015 cruise season on Tuesday, 4 November 2014, after an absence of 15 years. The Carnival Splendor, with a capacity of 3,002 passengers, berthed for the first time from 8 am to 4 pm at the Melville Street Cruise Terminal.
The return of Carnival Cruise Lines marked a significant achievement of the public–private partnerships and ongoing discussions initiated at the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association Cruise Conference & Trade Show 2013 in Cartagena, Colombia.
The Grenada Tourism Authority welcomed the visitors in the spirit of Grenadian culture: steelpan music, energetic dances, and rum and chocolate tastings.
In a plaque exchange ceremony on board the 2008 ship, Senator the Honourable Brenda Hood, Minister of Culture expressed her gratitude to the captain and crew of Carnival Splendor and conveyed positive expectations for future partnerships with the popular cruise lines. Hon. Brenda Hood also emphasized why Pure Grenada — The Spice of the Caribbean — is right for the adventure-seekers aboard the Carnival Cruise Lines.
Carnival is a popular brand, known to offer fun-loving cruises for young adults, couples, and families.
This was the first call for Carnival Cruise Lines since the construction of the new cruise terminal in 2005 which has a total berthing area of 375 metres and a finger pier with berthing on both sides. The 8–day Eastern Caribbean cruise began at San Juan, Puerto Rico and ends in Miami FL, USA.
Carnival Triumph is scheduled to berth on 17 February, 2015 at the Melville Street Cruise Terminal.
